Trol Kirken - SonderholmSonderholm is situated about 10-kilometres west of Aalborg. The megalithic grave-mound "Trolkirken" lays about one kilometre east of Sonderholm, direction Frejlev. After +- 1 km an exceptional road mark shows the way...
It is impossible to take the more than fifty-meters long monument in one close picture. The hill is encircled whit 47 kerbstones. The tomb is orientated northeast. The kerbstones are clearly visible on Google Earth.
The panoramic sight on top of the hill is impressing, a wide view in all directions. "Trol Kirken" dominates the area. This is a typical location for a megalithic monument... According a legend this long barrow received his name referring to of a troll that lived on the other bank of the fjord. The church bells of Sonderholm irritated the troll. So he throws a big stone to destroy the church's tower. The stone landed on top of the hill and is still visible as capstone of the tomb's chamber...
